Canon EOS R Overview
The innovative EOS R camera boasts professional quality for both your still shooting and video project demands. The attributes that contribute to its outstanding quality performance are a full-frame, 30.3 Megapixel CMOS sensor and a Dual Pixel CMOS Autofocus system for rapid, accurate tracking and 4K video recording capabilities.
SUPERB IMAGE QUALITY
DIGIC 8 Image Processor
The EOS R camera features a 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor that offers approximately 30.3 effective megapixels. The sensor is powered by the DIGIC 8 Image Processor, which enables an expansive ISO range, enhances image stabilization and speeds up operations. Combined, the sensor and image processor result in breathtaking image quality and performance.
Bring Life’s Details to Light
The EOS R camera has a standard ISO sensitivity range of 100-40000 for stills and 100-25600 for video. Combined with the EOS R mirrorless camera’s remarkable low-light autofocus performance, clearly capturing your subjects is made possible (even when lighting is limited).
Fine-Tuned Focus
Selectable autofocus modes on the EOS R camera allow you to quickly adapt your settings to meet the needs of specific situations and subjects. For example, Eye Detection Autofocus automatically uses a subject’s eye as the focal point and maintains focus even while in motion.
State-of-the-Art Autofocus
The Canon EOS R camera features an incredible 5,655 manually selectable AF points,*combined with a focus area that covers approximately 88% horizontal and 100% vertical when using RF lenses and select EF lenses. What that means for you is swift and accurate focus — no matter where your subject is located in the frame.
World’s Fastest Autofocus
Snap the shot you want with the world’s fastest autofocus. The 0.05 second autofocus makes the EOS R camera ideal for fast-paced, action photography — especially for stills which would have otherwise been impossible to capture.
Low-Light Focused
When it comes to taking photos in the dark, you need a specialized unit. Where many AF systems may fall short, the EOS R camera can operate in light as dim as EV -6. This is achieved with Canon’s state-of-the-art, ultra-sensitive AF that is designed to make capturing subjects in limited lighting possible — even when using high F number lenses.
PROFESSIONAL 4K VIDEO
With the EOS R camera, you can choose to record full 4K using IPB or ALL-I3 compression and save them in an MP4 file format. Enjoy the flexibility with both file sizes, image quality and integration with video clips recorded with other cameras.
Excellent Shadows and Highlights
Built-in Log gamma reduces heavy shadows and blown-out highlights, delivering movie images with approximately 12 stops of dynamic range at ISO 400. This brings out excellent shadow and highlight detail, making an ideal solution for post-production and multi-camera setups. That, coupled with HDMI output for 4K 10-bit 4:2.2 video, helps bring out maximum color and dynamic range. You can also output your video directly to an external drive from the HDMI port for extra versatility.
Focus In Manually
Focus Peaking is Canon’s answer to slow manual focus. Establish the focus area quickly and clearly by indicating the area in focus with a colored line. Display where the position of focus is relative to the subject with Dual Pixel Focus Guide, helping you get the right shot when recording movies.
Professional 4K Recording
Constructed to deliver professional quality videos, the EOS R camera offers advanced recording options: 4K at 29.97 fps, Full HD at 59.94 fps and HD at 119.9 fps. Convenient applications include distortion correction during recording and Movie Digital Image Stabilization. Additionally, video can be recorded during still photo shooting by simply pressing the Movie Shooting button.
Touch and Drag Autofocus
Select a focus point without taking your eye from the viewfinder. The EOS R camera makes focusing on the shot fast and easy. Simply point your camera towards the desired area of focus, touch the screen, drag the picture into focus and snap the shot.
Smaller Aperture Lenses, No Problem
The EOS R camera's autofocus will operate over nearly the entire image area when using compatible f/8 and f/11 lenses. Easily achieve beautiful, sharp images with both smaller apertures and EF extenders, bringing expanded range of focal lengths to your photography.
