The EOS C70 introduces the next evolution of our renowned Dual Pixel CMOS AF (DPAF) technology, which offers even greater performance.
With the RF mount at the heart of the EOS C70 providing the perfect balance of optical, mechanical and electronic engineering, filmmakers can now benefit from the unrivalled optical designs, faster autofocus and communication between camera and lens afforded by the RF technology. With this revolutionary RF data communication system, the existing DPAF technology is pushed to the next level.
To further fine tune AF performance, the EOS C70 offers the ability to set the AF tracking speed and response.
A newly designed Direct Touch user interface offers quick control of onscreen settings, adjustment of various parameters, as well as start/stop recording. All with a touch of a finger.
Dual Pixel CMOS AF phase-difference technology provides an innovative graphical guide that represents front/back focus deviation. The rectangle turns green when the subject is in focus, improving usability and accuracy when manual focus pulling. This is especially useful for critical focusing in 4K.
(Intelligent Tracking & Recognition)
The EOS C70 uses an Intelligent Tracking and Recognition system, based on a deep-learning algorithm for highly accurate face tracking, even when the subject is facing away from the camera.
Working together with Canon Face Detection technology, Dual Pixel CMOS AF is excellent at automatically recognising a face and tracking it while it moves.
Thanks to Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology, every pixel in the sensor can be used for both imaging and AF, which means the AF can acquire and track subjects – such as the subject’s eyes – providing sharp critical focus, even with a shallow depth of field.
Face detection AF can track a person’s face in the frame and maintain focus on them. Thanks to the new firmware, Face detection AF and Eye Detection AF are now possible in Slow and Fast Shooting modes, from 24-120P.
The EOS C70 features 12-bit RAW recording with Cinema RAW Light up to 645Mbps, truly unleashing the exceptional capabilities of its Super 35mm DGO sensor. Three Cinema RAW Light options are available including LT (Light), ST (Standard) and HQ (High Quality), as well as options for Super 35mm and Super 16mm formats. In addition to the existing 4:2:2 10-bit XF-AVC and HEVC recording formats, the EOS C70 provides even greater workflow flexibility for your production needs.
The image can be enlarged in HD mode up to 34x zoom equivalent while maintaining Full HD resolution thanks to digital extender.
The 4K Super 35mm DGO sensor in the EOS C70 includes our innovative Dual Gain Output technology, first introduced in the C300 Mk III, and delivers exceptionally clean low light image quality as well as over 16 stops of dynamic range.
On the DGO sensor, each pixel will read out the image with two different amplification levels, one high and one low, which will then be combined to make a single image. The higher amplification read-out is optimized to capture clean details in darker areas, while the lower amplification read-out is optimized to capture the details in brighter areas. Hence, when combined together at pixel-level accuracy, the details and the qualities on both the highlight, as well as the low light areas will be maintained and enhanced which enables the camera to achieve an impressive higher dynamic range of up to 16+ stops.
Unlike Dual ISO, the benefits of DGO work across a wider ISO range, maximising the dynamic range and image quality regardless of the environment you are shooting in.
The new DGO sensor is also compatible with Dual Pixel AF giving the user greater freedom to achieve the image they desire.
Enjoy up to 16+ stops of dynamic range when shooting in Canon Log 2, with characteristics close to film, maximising grading flexibility and shadow detail.
Canon Log 3 also provides exceptional dynamic range while offering a more efficient grading workflow and minimising shadow noise.
The EOS C70 also features Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) and Perceptual Quantization (PQ), for internal recording of HDR footage instantly without grading.
Canon’s Cinema EOS System is renowned for colour science that produces warm natural skin tones and organic colour. The EOS C70 also has a range of colour matrix settings to match other camera types and models.
In addition to Canon’s in-built Cinema EOS lookup tables, import custom 3D LUT files for internal recording, for even more efficient colour pipeline workflows.
